This is day 2 of 2025 Summer Masterclass Series which is all about setting and finishing off a claw set ring. You will have learned to fabricate a setting on day one and today you will learn how to set the stone and finish the piece.

Peter has many years experience training apprectices and jewellers in Australia and is visiting the UK to share his tried and true teaching methods.

During the course you will be introduced to the unpinning principals and pitfalls you may encounter when cutting seats in claw syle mounts. This includes best practices in metal thickness ratios, getting the spacing and geometry right, what tools are needed and how to clean up effectivly after setting.

As part of this 2 day course you will be given material and cubic zircons to form and set your piece. Peter will bring along some of his specially made up setting packs available for purchase for further practice at home.

Rachel Hearne Jewellery School is a fully equipt jewellery studio meaning you will need to bring a minimal amount of tools (mostly burrs and bits) with you. Tool list TBC.
