Ready to take the next step in your fabrication and precision? Peter will offer a day of expertise and challenges to help push and hone your skills. He will be covering theory of various mount making skills and help you learn to apply this through a project based over 2 days. Suitable for anyone with some experience with fabrication that wishes to speed up and improve accuracy.

A popular test of any apprentice or a sign of skilled jeweller is fabrication of mounts for gemstones. Peter has many years experience training apprectices and jewellers in Australia and is visiting the UK to share his tried and true teaching methods.

During the course you will be introduced to underpinning principals and pitfalls you may encounter when planning and constructing a mount. This includes best practices in metal thickness ratios, getting the spacing and geometry right, what tools are needed etc. The following day July 5th to learn how to claw set the stone. You will learn a few tricks of the trade that will help you move further on in your skills set.

You will need basic skills in drilling, sawing and good soldering technique.

As part of the course you will be given material to practice on the day. Peter will be able to help you with any specific issues you have and will help you to understand how you can use what your learn to apply to your designs.

Rachel Hearne Jewellery School is a fully equipt jewellery studio meaning you will need to bring a minimal amount of tools (mostly burrs, sawblases and measuring tools) with you. Tool list TBC.
