January 11th 2025
10-4pm
Brighten your January! Come learn how to use vitreous enamels on copper to add colour and surface interest using the kiln or a torch. Once you have designed your enamel blanks you will learn to fabricate a tab setting to complete your pendant.
During the day will make a series of copper tiles using vitreous enamels using both kiln and torch method. You will be able to compare first hand the differences offered by both heating methods. Once completed you will choose your favourite test tile to turn into a pendant to wear. You will be encouraged to practice fabrication techniques such as drilling, roller printing, sawpiercing, accurate filing methods, and various finishing and texture techniques to prepare your tiles.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in trying enamels or for those who wish to improve and gain new skills and techniques. This course is ideal for those with a little fabrication experience i.e. familiar with a sawframe and torch use.
We will cover types of enamels, where to buy, best practices, how to use grain size to your advantage, overlays, transparent and opaques, firing techniques, finishing and trouble shooting. For those with experience you can try out a little hand engraving for transparents.
