The tale of the lost ring....

This past weekend I got a phone call from Rachael tearily confessing she lost one of her two rings I made for her while swimming in the bay. She never swims with her rings on but due to a particularly hectic afternoon she got into the water and realised her error while she was out in the water. She tried to get them both safely into a dry bag while treading water but she fumbled one and it sank into the depths of Morecambe bay mud. Fortunately a kind bystander helped to mark her position from the shore and the hunt began once the tide had gone out far enough. We had a search crew of 5 with less than an hour of light and 3 metal detectors. I have to say it was a first for this jeweller usually its me searching for a dropped diamond on the studio floor! We searched until it went dark but had no luck. So early Sunday morning three others continued the search. No luck. Then the amazing Mathew Hepworth arrived with his knowledge and experience (he found a hoard recently) and 5 min had liberated it from the mud. What a relief!

So if you are out and about this winter remember to take care walking the hills in rings wearing gloves or out wild swimming. Our fingers can change up to an entire ring size when our hands are cold and can easily slip off without our noticing.

It is good to know I have a local metal detector enthusiast hero nearby! Thank you Matthew!
