This necklace was made using Art Clay 650, recycled fine silver and recycled 9 ct yellow gold. While visiting my step mum Kathy’s garden in Maui this year I was able to gather a huge amount of inspiration from her variety of showcase species. Her garden is a labour of love created over 25 years and carefully tended year round.
I took 2 part moulding material knowing that I would find many textures and forms that I would like to use in creating impressions in fine silver clay. For this necklace I used a pressing from her eye catching Hoya plant and a pressing from her own hybrid Anthirium plant- see if you can spot them in the gallery below.
Kathy’s birthstone is sapphire and I asked my son Elliot choose out a sappire that he thought she would like. Instead of a typical blue or green he chose a wonderful yellow which he said reminded him of the warm sunshine and her. Very sweet!
